Which is safer for piercing your cartilage gun or needle?

I am thinking about getting my cartilage done but now I am a little scared. All my friends have theirs done and they look great. They said that they got it done with a needle I was wondering if the needle was safer than the gun because my mom said her friend got hers done with a gun and her face is now paralyzed I was wondering if that was true or not. Should I be scared that my face will end up like that???.
