Can I get adjusted by a chiropractor without being twisted, cracked, and popped around San Angelo Tex?

My back has been hurting me for a long time and now it is getting to where I can't get out of bed without prescription pain killers or even climb a ladder period. This is a major problem since I build for a living. I really don't want to have surgery, but I don't want someone cracking my back and paralyzing me either. I would really just like to find a way to fix my back without twisting my body and cracking my spine or having to go through surgery, since everyone I know that has had back surgery says it was the worst decision of their lives. I live close to San Angelo, TX, and would like to find something close, like Austin or Dallas if I have to go further than Abilene or San Angelo.
