Why do people act like Christians are minority victims?

Everywhere you look people have to respect the sensibilities of christians, make sure to respect their freedoms, rights, values, and such that it seems like they begin to impede upon the rights of non-christian. Why are Christians treated like they are at a disadvantage in life and social situations. Christians are hardly discriminated, and in fact a good amount of them seem to be the ones discriminating. Also, why does the media and the United States in general seem to view Christians as more virtuous and well meaning than the rest of the populace? This doesn't make sense to me because i have never heard of a buddhist burning people alive because they were different or didn't conform.
