Is it ok to feel sad when your dog dies?

it wasn't our dog but we were watching it for out paralyzed friend and she got hit by a car and they said that its to expansive to get surgery so they are going to put her to sleep. But i feel sad but i dont want to let it ruin my summer. someone give me tips and im 15 years old.
