How old must you be for the Freedom of Speech to be applied to you as a US citizen?

My school principle told two kids they had to take down a Facebook page called "You know you go to Jeff High if..." and students would put funny endings on like "you take Mexican instead of Spanish". Do the kids have the right to keep it up as Freedom of Speech since it doesn't impede on the learning environment of the school or does the principle have authority?
